Summary - mAMP Drug Test Panel
Methamphetamine, commonly known as meth, is a potent CNS stimulant drug with a high potential for addiction and misuse. Methamphetamine is related to amphetamine in terms of chemistry and effects; however, methamphetamine is significantly more potent. While prescription forms of methamphetamine exist, prescriptions are uncommon. So unlike amphetamine, where most misuse occurs through diverted prescriptions, methamphetamine misuse is far more likely to occur with illicit forms produced in illegal meth labs. Methamphetamine is known for its ability to induce psychotic behaviors in some chronic users, in addition to periods of sleep deprivation that can last for multiple days.
Like amphetamine, methamphetamine has d- (dextro), l- (levo), and dl- (racemic) forms (isomers). d-Methamphetamine is the most common form and the most potent. Prescription methamphetamine is d-methamphetamine, prescribed under generic labels and the brand Desoxyn, in oral tablet form, for the treatment of ADHD and obesity.
Illicit street methamphetamine is typically d-methamphetamine, though it can be dl-methamphetamine (50/50 combination of d-methamphetamine and l-methamphetamine), depending on the chemical precursors used to synthesize the drug. Illicit methamphetamine is found in powder and rock crystal forms. The powder form, also known as crank, can be smoked, snorted, or injected after liquefying. Crank tends to be cheaper and of lower purity than the crystal form, due to a tendency for street dealers to cut the powder with other substances in order to stretch profits. The crystal form, also known as ice, glass, or crystal meth, is typically of higher purity than the powder form and is smoked or injected after liquefying.
d-Methamphetamine is the target compound for the mAMP One Step Methamphetamine Drug Test, detected at a cutoff level of 1,000 ng/mL. In normal urine (pH 6–8), approximately 37–54% of a d-methamphetamine dose is excreted as unchanged d-methamphetamine, with 4–7% as d-amphetamine. Urine pH has a significant impact on these rates, with higher values in acidic (lower pH) urine and lower values in alkaline (higher pH) urine.
MDMA cross-reacts with this test at 2,000 ng/mL. MDMA is one form of the designer drug ecstasy. It should be noted, however, that detection of ecstasy use is outside the scope of a methamphetamine test device. Instead, an ecstasy test device should be employed, such as the MDMA One Step Ecstasy Drug Test, which detects the three forms of ecstasy: MDMA, MDA, and MDEA.
Specificity - mAMP Drug Test Panel
The following compounds are detected positive in urine by the mAMP One Step Methamphetamine Drug Test at 5 minutes. Cutoff represents the concentration of each compound required to yield a positive reading, expressed in nanograms of compound per milliliter of urine (ng/mL). A lower cutoff indicates a greater ability to detect the compound.
|Compound||Synonyms / Brand Names / Common Names / Description||Cutoff
|d-Methamphetamine||Dextro-methamphetamine, Methylamphetamine, Desoxyephedrine, Metamfetamin, Metamfetamina, Metanfetamina / Desoxyn / Meth, Crystal meth, Ice, Crank||1,000|
|3,4-Methylenedioxy-methamphetamine||MDMA / Ecstasy, Molly||2,000|
